Il Pescatore

By Jasper87
.... sounds a bit more exotic than fisherman, although why he wants to be doing it at this point remains a mystery, any self-respecting fish would be heading for the deeps in that sea. You can see the effect of the wind on his rod, but Scarborough harbour really is so well sheltered from seas. The image was taken from in front of the lighthouse for those that know it.
Iso 100, f11, 1/200s, @165mm on the 70-200 lens without a tripod.

v2 are steps that lead down from the top outer harbour wall. I got quite a few funny looks clicking away at shadows. Iso 200, f11, 1/200s, @70mm. No tripod!!!

I think we all get funny looks sometimes, when people see what we are photographing, Dave Wink. Great shadows in V.2, did the fisherman catch anything? Carol

I like the compression shown in V1 - its shown in the rod tip by the angler and by use of telephoto compression of the image by the photographer! Nice detail and textures in V2 the shadows make it! Both Super images, well captured, I like them a lot!

Two excellent images, Dave!
Funny looks from folks don't last long, though, do they??!!

Two superb and different images Dave. I used to do this sea angling lark until I discovered there is practically no fish left in the sea

Two brilliant shots. Love V2 not least as I can imagine the bewildered expressions of onlookers who are completely devoid of imagination.

V1 is rather dramatic for an angling photograph, even sea fishing tending to reflect tranquillity and contentment.
Excellent timing has ensured good composition - the dynamic shape against the backdrop of the raging sea.
I hope the onlookers when you took V2 still managed to keep out of your way Smile

I love the twitch in the end of the rod. Well it was probably more than a twitch... I have never, ever, seen anyone catch so much as a shrimp in such conditions.

The story of our lives. I remember photographing the shadows of chairs in the bandstand in the park at Beamish, and then having to explain what I was doing to a whole row of people sitting around the edge.

A cracking composition, man against the elements battling for a nibble... "A bit like during the lunchtime mayhem at Marks & Spencers I suppose"

Image number two for me is the more appealing, a wonderfully observed image, which although bright has a somewhat eerie feel about it, as if they were the souls of Fisherman past...

I love both of these images. A stunning compo, action and depth of the first move me deeply as a lover of fishing, almost 3D effect achieved with the hazy backdrop contrasting the sharpness of the foreground image. V2 combines great broken shadows, light, textures, colour tones and some rust together. Fabulous works, Dave.

V1 has great movement with the swirling water and the fishing rod "waving" in the wind but all he would catch I think is a few aching " muscles" in his arms.

I see no fun in this at all. A lovely scene spoilt by a fisherman wearing a high viz jacket in the cold! (Not your fault, I hasten to add, just a general observation). Brrrrrrr.............
Now that looks cold , they say the early bird gets the worm hope the early fisherman got the fish , you got two nice captures Dave like them both.

Brave soul standing there in those conditions: wonder of he caught anything other than the 'flu.
But he makes a great subject, Dave, and you have captured a fine image.
I have got used to being on the receiving end go funny looks as I attempt something different, and your V 2 sure stands well in Saturday shadow feature.

I've never seen the sea that rough at Scarborough! This chap must be mad, stood on the end of the pier like that - I'd be worried about getting blown off! He (and the rough sea) have provided you with a super dramatic image though, Dave Smile

The land on the right really looks like the next bank of giant waves rolling in behind the real ones, Dave, and excellent effect of the lens used.
I must admit I prefer my fish more along the production line than in on a plate, battered or breadcrumbed and a side order of home-made chips, tartar sauce, salt & vinegar and a squeeze of lemon....all washed down with a decent ale, of course.Wink

V2 might make an excellent b&w conversion, added contrast, perhaps film noir? Just a thought.
