  • Thanks, yep you are right there LOL. Name changed.

By way just tried my process then used Shadows/Highlights, like it, but set highlight to nil.

  • Hi

I do not do much with the RAW files in CS6, just clarify and enhance colour and set white balance. Then get rid of Chromatic Aberr and totally remove sharpening. I then process all 3 RAWs in Nik HDR and go for the Balanced Realistic and tad enhancement of colour again.

I the get rid of noise with Nik Dfine 2. I then play about with sharpening in CS6, even use High Pass Sharpening.

    Smile
  • I use it all the time as it is what I am comfy with to produce an image with depth/colour etc that I want. I use CS6 to enhance and yes shadow and highlight is good but I never bother I Nik, in my mind, Nik produces a far better depth, we can also use the BURN tool etc.

I also use Nik - http://www.niksoftware.com/site/ - to get rid of all noise in image.
  • I use Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 with Photoshop CS6, and shoot 3 RAWS using AEB on my Canon. This produces fantastic realistic HDR's and I use this all the time. Have tried others but none has a patch on Nik.

You can view some of my results on Facebook by following JASPERIMAGE
  • Like all when I started photography I also purchased Filters from Cokin, ND Grad etc etc, however I found that when using same with my favourite Lens - Canon EFS 17 - 85, at 17 - 25 is it cropped image badly.

Now I use AEB on my Canon 50D and just forget about filters. I use AV and set AEB and timer so that I meter expose, fix camera tightly on tripo and Camera does the business.

Basically one end up with 3 RAW, 1 overexposed, 1 under and 1 as metered.

Then in Photoshop one blends the Underexposed with the metered version and this gives good sky and fore etc.

    Thoughts on this ?

  • Quote:Hey if you crack it let me know and I'll try it on my 20D!

Despite the book being brill re CS4 techniques I think he has it wrong re camera settings.

  • Quote:The manual for the camera says only 3, the same as it's been for all the xxD series, the only thing you can do in the Custom functions is change the order in which it brackets (C.FN I-5)

That is what I thought and do, but just wanted to check to see if there was a cunning method to change it.

    Brian
  • This is apparently in one go, quote " choose 2 stops brighter, then press the set button ( this automatically sets the bracketing to also shoot 2 stops darker).

This is what I do and still only get 3 shots as to me 2 stops darker is 2 stops under measure.

  • I am a user of Photoshop CS4 and as such I have been teaching myself new things via the pucrchase of the book - The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book by Scott Kelby.

On page 248, he indicates how one can shoot 5 bracketed shots by using the Exposure./AEB bracketing on a Canon 40 and 50D

I use this a lot on my Canon 50D but I can only shoot 3 shots, i.e 1 under, 1 level and 1 over etc and set it as I want.

I cannot see how one can shoot 5, can anyone assist re this.
  • My site is working well and it would appear that the home server for Clikpic is down again. I am quite fed up with this as I was trying to update my site today.

This is not the first time this has happened.

  • Quote:Now that the 50D has been on sale for a month or two, those folk who actually have one, what are your thoughts on the first months or so of ownership?

I am very pleased with it, I am totally a RAW shooter and I often have to crop my images and with there being 15mgp in the image nothing is lost. The sensor cleaning is brill, I frequently change lens and found with my old 30D that the sensor got quite dirty very quickly and just would not clean well.

It is also so simple to use, IT IS BRILL.

    Brian
  • I upgraded from 30D to 50D and also updated from CS2 to CS4. First the res on the Camera is absolute brill with the type of landscape that I perform, crop. I had to wait a week for RAW 5.1 via Adobe to work with my RAW shots ( I always shoot RAW ).

CS4 is absolute brill, the RAW convert allows you to enhance small areas etc and has loads of great tools. CS4 in main is likewise.

I also considered upgrade to 5D, but the thought of changing 3 of my lens proved to much, now I have resolution etc that I wanted and my images are brill when crop and then printed.

  • Quote:As long as everythings sorted.

    All sorted thanks for assist.

    Brian
  • Adobe have brought out RAW 5.1 which upgrades CS4 and reads 50D RAW perfectly.

  • Quote:Quote:I got an email from Adobe saying that it would be active within an hour but it wasn't.what do they know Matt!

Downloaded and checked out both at about 9 this morning.

I entered CS4 at 1230hrs, used its Help - Upgrade and there it was RAW 5.1

Downloaded and working a treat - so far - away to play with same and HDR etc.

  • Quote:From another site QuoteSadThe above links are not active at present.
Adobe have informed us that it will be available for download at 0400 hrs, GMT on 23rd October

Thanks, looked at it again and yep time was American. Will get the morn.

  • Quote:4.6 has support for 50D

    link

Thanks but it is CS4 that I have and it uses RAW5.

    Brian

  • Quote:I've asked Adobe. Awaiting a reply.

    Thanks

    Brian
  • I have the 50D and wondered if you have got Adobe RAW 5.1 update. It is apparently available but I cannot find it to download.

  • Quote:Ah here you go -

Quote:Camera Raw 5.0 is installed automatically with Photoshop CS4 so there's no update process beyond installing Photoshop. One important note is that the new camera support added in the last Camera Raw update for CS3 is not currently available in Camera Raw 5.0. We'll be providing a Camera Raw 5.1 update next week that will include additional camera support.

Ah well, have to wait till next week then.

    Thanks Boyd

  • Quote:Upload the latest adobe camera raw plugin from adobe website, this supports 50D

If that is RAW 4.5 it does not and I cannot see where to get RAW 4.6

    Can you assist.
  • Well I am well peeeed off. Got CS4 today and it cannot read 50D Raw.

    Typical

  • Quote:Quote:As I said, the beta plugin WORKS with CS3.

Besides, for those that use Photomatix Pro, the support team is already working on this issue, and they have just told me that the beta 3.1 version (released yesterday) also works with 50D raw files for HDR processing.
    You can find it at
    http://www.hdrsoft.com/download/beta/win31.html

    regards,

MPI am not that keen on Photomatix HDR, but I do use their Shadow and Highlight blending, I always shoot AEB, 1 up, 1 down etc with Camera fixed tight on Tripod, I tend to use 1up and 1 down image to make picture then transfer to photoshop to add other details etc. I am very keen to try out CS4 HDR to see how it goes.

    Brian

I should have said, that I absolutely hate using filters which always crop my Wide Angle lens.

  • Quote:Actually Adobe have now released the full version of ACR 4.6 with support for the 50D but this is only for CS3 and will be the last ACR update for CS3. After that you'll have to upgrade to CS4!

    Simon

Well I get CS4 on 15/10, so hopefully all will be well.
  • I just acquired a 50D upgraded from 30D. It is a fantastic camera and the 15mgpx is superb for my type of photography as this allows for for some very good cropping etc and not losing quality. I also managed to sell my 30D without a problem via ebay.

Only problem is that I am a RAW and HDR man and CS2 does not recognise 50D RAW. I have reg to upgrade to CS4 on 15/10/2008 so hopefully this will be sorted. Canon does supply software that process RAW and one can then convert into TIF and put into CS2.
  • Well, I have done an image via Canon RAW software then onto Photoshop, please view on my Gallery,

    NEWMACHAR - SQUARE BALE SUNSET

I will prob upgrade to CS3 or 4.

    Thanks

  • Quote:
Well if you like HDR then Photomatix is better, and if you want RAW processing, then I would say DPP is better than the RAW interface that ships with CS2. So now you have the chance to discover the better life that is outside Adobe.

Re this, Photomatix does not even work with these RAW Files, I like to sort the RAW's in Photoshop, I truly think that Photoshop is the best tool for this and I often adjust each RAW before HDR process in Photoshop, which I think betters Photomatix and one gets a better picuure at end.

    Thanks

  • Quote:Look in your 50D box and you will find a copy of Canon DPP, its a half decent RAW converter and it will allow you to get to a TIFF output. Adobe will tell you to buy CS4 to get support for your camera, some time.
I did download this onto my computer, but I am very much a man who loves Photoshop, which is the best and I am very much a HDR man.
  • Add a topic!I have just acquired my Canon 50D and shot as usual in RAW. Now find that Photoshop CS2 does not recognise the images so cannot do a thing with them apart from view as JPEG's.

Anybody know where I can get a Software Download to CS2, I cannot find same via Adobe or Canon.

    Cheers
