Marigold

By Jaye
Well as this is my first attempt at both macro and flowers and after looking for months at all the beautiful flowers sites I think I will load it and then run as I guess the experts wouldn't even take a plain old Marigold but I don't have a garden and a lady gave me a few yesterday..Enjoy it if possible..Judith

Morning Judith,

I like the idea very much, but the lighting for me is too harsh. Was this taken in direct sunlight? if so, I would suggest that you diffuse the light hitting the flower by shielding it with something like greaseproof paper or tissue paper (so many things to choose from that are all cheap but not nasty). The DoF is spot on for me and blends into the background but not causing it to be a distraction.

The border is very nice and works with the flower and background. Presentation as a whole works well for me. Dare I say this ... try again using something to difuse the light, or wait until the sun is just coming up or going down so it is not so harsh.

Hi Judith, good macro work, textures, dof and colour/tone.Why don't you try by using the same flower and play about with the lighting in photoshop and see if that can help, you will find it under filter, render and then the bottom.Take care.AnnSmile

Cracking detail and well taken in what looks like harsh light, perhaps try one with fill-in flash -not that I know anything about flower photography. CLIX

Well Judith, usually I avoid a centered composition, but the marigold has such a lovely round shape it really seems to suit it! Great detail and colour and a lovely background, I think you did a smashing job!

I think it is a good one.
You may consider next time to reduce the exposure slightly as there is more definiton in the left side than on the right side. click

I like the way the light even if a little harsh has brought out beautifully the frilly edges on the flower. Pretty good go for first time I'd say.

Nice one
