The Busker

By TrevBatWCC
Had a quick wander around the shops in Stamford before heading back to the coach to take us on to our overnight stay, and spotted this colourful old chap on High Street busking. Would have expected him to be wearing some colourful shoes that went with the costume - perhaps with turned-up toes - the trainers look a bit out of place! Wink He doesn't look a happy chappy, eitherů Sad

Single Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw 7, tweaked in Photomatix Pro 5 and Photoshop Elements 11.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.

Yes a very sad image...maybe he is miserable because his wife washed his turned up shoes and they shrunk...a great candid

Looks like he is thinking

'The things I have to do to supplement the pension!'

Not sure if he is unhappy or just thoughtful, but whatever, a very good candid portrait.

Well spotted of course! The cash machine adds another element to how I read this image, but I am not at all certain as to the way it should be interpreted. A busker, yes. A sad, homeless person, perhaps, but is it, what are the signs? This older person's facial features do show concentration and musical appreciation and place the accent on a rather excellent musical instrument. The costume is richly appropriate. Is he after hand-outs? I do not see the usual plate. Now, must we feel pity or would we rather see this person in a retirement home. I'd go and thank him, wouldn't you? All the best to you all,

Like your write up, Trev, the first thing I noticed was his footwear.... then his lack of happiness.... and then the cash point. Good observational piece.

I think my thoughts are in line with Paul [parob] here. Is he busking, or just doing something he enjoys? is he lonely? possibly, hence the reason he is seeking company rather than evidence of hand outs. Is receiving money for busking a hand out, I don't think so. Does he have any dress sense, definitely not, but, he is certainly dressed to attract attention and perhaps that is the reason he is there.

Ordinarily, I would have said, great place for a busker at the side of a cash machine, since the lowest denomination is a fiver.

What ever the reason he is there, you have captured him well Trev and you have certainly sparked off some debate as to this guys purpose.

A very laid back and colourful character Trev, don't think I would look very happy with that garb on either.
