Hanging On

By JGH
Through the kitchen window, early morning, at a holiday home called Aspenwood in the Highlands.
First time with the Sigma 150-500mm lens, and have found it gives a slightly sharper image with the Optical Stabilisation switched off! The Canon 400mm lens is sharper still, but I couldn't afford that one! Smile

Super image lovely detail and well done through the window and well done for your first with the new lens, I must say my 500 lens does not have a built in stabiliser and I have always got sharp images except when I mess up lol

I'm wondering whether this has been re-sharpened after re-sizing for epz? It's looking a touch soft in the eye and the plumage, and this could be the reason. Either that or a higher s/speed will help to nail the detail. Otherwise a very nice shot.
As for lenses, an interesting observation about OS.
I went for the Canon 400 F5.6 about a year ago, although I was tempted by the price, and extra 100mm fl of the 150-500.

No re-sharpening after re-sizing, and I agree there is a softness there which I think either came from the glass or the OS on the lens. With the OS switched off, and the lens steady, the image is slightly sharper. Nothing like the 400mm Canon glass I hired once though.

The second variant, the one with the slight blue cast removed, seem better. I prefer that one. Nice image though, especially through window glass.
