Cleared for Take-Off

Cleared for Take-Off by sandwedge

Cracking shot - pin sharp. Very appealing subject matter too!

Lighten up fella Smile You've been given some genuinely helpful advice. All we can do with such advice is scrutinise it, decide whether or not it's useful and either learn from it, or move on.

In this case, I'd have to agree with mcgannc's well put observations. If it was a "1200 lens", why does the EXIF say 400mm?

Composition is very good Smile

Like the way the humans at either end of the train act as 'book-ends'.

That's beautiful. Skin tones / textures are amazing. Shame she looks like she'd like to fire lasers out of her eyes and obliterate the human race Grin Whilst I understand the need for 'blue-steel', a wee smile, or a show of teeth would lift this from pedestrian to Ferrari Smile

Brilliant! He looks like an old man waiting for his Guinness to settle! A reflector (or even a sheet of A4 paper) would bounce some light into his face and add catchlights to his eyes.

Stranded by mattw

Beautiful work - the tones in the driftwood are almost reflected in the sky - as per description, great juxtaposition of warm and cold colours.

Excellent - not least because the BG bokeh looks (slightly) like Santa Claus.... Did I miss something? is that what the shot's all about?!

Blacks, whites, midtones a-plenty, interesting subject matter, a story within a photograph.... All boxes ticked Smile

Definitely has a 'look' - and I like it!

Love the angle - looks like the shop on Victoria St where I used to spend my pocket money - glad to see it's still there!

Those chaps are paying attention in a big way! Wouldn't have known it was the 10-20 if you hadn't said - no obvious distortion. Perfect exposure too!

Could be a shutter speed / shakey hand issue - the buildings over the road look in sharper focus than the last guy's head. Do you know what the shutter speed was?

Best to line them up so that they're on the same plane of focus (that is, not all at different distances from your camera.

Also, if at all possible, get the flash off the camera. It has blown out the first kid and barely touched the last in the line.

Finally - watch yer backgrounds - that green thing in bottom right is very distracting.

Proper Christmas card material there! Actually, that wouldn't do the photo justice - it needs framed. Got one of the same church from a different angle years ago here on film

Went back last summer and got a

digital shot of the same view.
