Heavy Frost at Crathes

By jimthistle73
Taken in the grounds of Crathes Castle after several days of heavy frost.
Blue grad in the sky (cheesy I know, but the sky was a dull, leaden grey).

Lovely shot with good foreground detail to lead the eye into the photo. One point..have you thought of adding the blue grad in photoshop? that way you could mask etc and keep the blue off the grass, just a thought.

Thanks all for comments, much appreciated.

Dave, I normally would, but the blue grad has been skulking in the bottom of my bag for years and this seemed to be a good opportunity to use it.

I did use the sponge tool to desaturate the trees and grass at the top of the pic, but not enough it seems!!

I think a dull leaden grey sky would have worked very well with the frost, maintaining the monotone. I like the details in the foreground, good low viewpoint.

I like the low level from which the shot was taken & the f/g detail in particular. A well composed image.

Great shot. Love the overall cold-morning feel to it. (I am in middle of summer right now but this shot makes me look for my hot cup of coffee Wink
