One for a Challenge

By daviewat
Firstly please see image to improve challenge Then if you do not mind do a mod on it. It is a lovly old image of the hostel almost exactly 30 years ago and would be great to see it restored to a new looking imaage.

If the one I like best would be happy to do a mod on a big image for me it will be professionally printed and displayed in the hostel with the details of the person performing the mod.

Clicks not needed as it not my own image although it was gifted to us on a do as you will basis.

Just leave some details of mods performed please. Smile

It is interesting isn't it? I can see that although I thought mine looked better than the alternatives (like the next two mods) while I was working on it, when you put them side by side the other two do look better.

Cloned and smudged the right hand side, tho I reckon acharr's got the right idea, cropping it out altogether! Pushed up the reds a touch, brought down the cyans, increased contrast and added a car-park Smile

I did mine with three layers of the picture.

first layer I turned to B/W. and increased the contrast quite a lot.then faded it to about 60 to 70%.

second layer had the same treatment but left in color with the green increased and focused 100%.

third layer done about the same as the second with the blue increased.

after this was done I erased from the layer above to bring out the color I wanted to highlight ie:erasing from the B/w layer to bring out the green and so on.
...there was one layer I could have done to give the sand dirt a less washed out look, but can only do so much in 5 minutes

Hope this helps more than it confuses.

Heh, thanks Dave. Do I get a trophy? I didn't do much to the image, just adjusted the colour profile to remove the greenish cast that happens on old photo's. Upped the contrast to correct the fading. I had the most trouble getting a water colour that was NOT accurate, but looked like what people think water should look like. I still like jimthistle73's water best!
