This series of photos were taken from a bridge on Highway 20. This is a view of a floating village on the Tri An Reservoir (Ho Tri An), a large artificial lake in the province of Dong Nai.

The Tri An Dam was completed in the early 1980s with Soviet assistance, the dam and its adjoining hydroelectric station supplies the bulk of Ho Chi Minh City's electric power.

The people living in those houses are mainly fish farmers. The enclosures are for fish and other aquaculture. I read in the Vietnam Bridge that some ca hoang de (cichla ocellaris) and ca chim trang (colossoma brachpomum) both carnivorous species of fish escaped from some fish cages of local farmers. This has seriously threatened the environment of the Tri An Reservoir.

I walked across the bridge at the suggestion of my friend Loc. As it’s a main road lorries and buses were zooming past at speed and the bridge was shaking. There was only a narrow pavement so I did not feel very safe. People on their bicycles or mopeds waved at me or shouted “hello”.

I found this scene fascinating. It looks like they have taken a dead tree which was a threat to their net.

Wow, such a lovely view of life in that region. You have to marvell and admire how they have colonised the river, made their homes and fish. So interesting.
