“Cholon has a wealth of wonderful Chinese temples including Quan Am Pagoda, founded in 1816 by the Fujian Chinese congregation. The roof is decorated with fantastic scenes rendered in ceramic from traditional Chinese plays and stories. The tableaux include ships, people and several ferocious dragons. (Lonely Planet Guide)
Cholon is also famous for its markets, shops, small businesses (barbers, bird sellers ..etc.., narrow streets where it’s fun to lose your way.
There was a time when Cholon had a very bad reputation and it was the place to find opium fumeries (read Graham Greene’s “Ways of Escape” to find out more)

I enjoyed visiting pagodas as you are taken into a different world away from the noise and crowds. There is something magic about the colour red and the Chinese panelled written with gold letter. The smell of incense is very pleasant. The ritual which accompanies the burning is also very interesting.

I like those containers with the incense sticks planted in them as well as the faces of a deity (each one slightly different to the others).

As the sun has been shining lately, I’ve been busy outside rather than sit at the computer. So many belated thank you for leaving your comments on my last up-loads few days ago.
Hoping you will like and find some interest in this series about the Chinese pagoda.
Have a nice evening,

My three favourites are V1, 2, and 7 - but all are good. Beautifully captured light, colours, and smoke in V1 and V2 and the coils photographed against the light in V7 works a treat. Very interesting and well done series of shots. Enjoyed looking at these a bundle.

This is eye catching even in the thumb. V1 is my favorite, something about the composition and the smoke combines to make it very mystical.
