VIETNAM 2013 #136

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
Another road along the Cambodian border. It is difficult to imagine that this tranquil and beautiful landscape of the An Giang province in the Mekong Delta was the scene of blood sheds during the American War.

There was a U.S. Naval Combat Base in nearby Chau Doc City from 1969 to1971 as the town is on the Bassac River. American and South Vietnamese river forces patrolled the rivers and canals along the border with Cambodia as part of Operation SEALORDS (Southeast Asia Land, Ocean, River, and Delta Strategy) anti-infiltration strategy of 1969-1970. There were many battles in this area.

Indeed it seems Vietnam is a very forgiving country. These are beautiful photographs.
