VIETNAM 2013 #29

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
Buddhist monks observe a strict code of conduct (vinaya) in order to discipline the body and mind. Food is regarded simply as a means of keeping the body alive so that the spiritual path may be followed. Therefore they only have one meal a day which must be taken before noon.

I can tell you the three monks in the previous up-loads were quick to leave us before 11.15am and go an have their food.

The reason for the one meal a day rule is that a meal in the evening may cause drowsiness and make the practice of meditation difficult.
