VIETNAM 2013 #34

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
More photos of Chua Wat Khuone at the end of a hot afternoon last February. The grounds are covered with tall trees providing much needed shade during the day. Various buildings and statues are scattered making the walk around them interesting as you discover lots of things to photograph (see the versions).

This reclining Buddha is a representation of Buddha at his death. It is said that he knew death was approaching, so he asked his disciples to prepare a couch for him in a grove. He laid there, reclining on his right side, facing west, with his head supported by his hand as he passed into Nirvana.
