VIETNAM 2013 #83

The main street of the small village of Dat Mui at the southernmost tip of Vietnam. The local people earn their living from fishing and aquaculture (mainly shrimps and crabs). They are is still poor but their livelihood is improving.

All children of school age have access to education and there is a healthcare center in the village.
Things were different in the 1970‘s as Dat Mui Commune was a “Liberation Forces Base” during the “American War”.

Large-scale US troops raids took place in the area and the “Liberation Soldiers” had to hide in the mangrove forests nearby. There very little food or fresh water. They had to boil down sea water to get drinking water and also boil “mam fruit” in order to have something to eat. The “mam fruit” is very bitter.

Two well observed images. I prefer V1 which has great composition and colour and gives a good feeling for the location.

These scenes allow a glimpse into the lives and conditions of the villagers, JNC: I like the attempts at the entrance balcony in V 2.

It all looks so neat, tidy, and well cared for Jean-Noel. So nice to hear that life is improving for the villagers.GrinGrin
