Raymond Island is a small island in the Gippsland Lakes in eastern Victoria, Australia (about 300 km/190 miles from Melbourne. The island is approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) long by 2 km (1.2 mi) wide.

At first sight the place looks idyllic but as soon as you get out of your car, you find yourself surrounded by mosquitoes. They’re small but voracious! Having traveled all that far, undeterred you go and discover this little island meetimg some of the locals like this lovely Echidna.

While walking, I suddenly saw this sweet animal running towards me. I stood still and he went past right next to me nearly stepping on my foot.

Echidnas belong to the family Tachyglossidae (order of egg-laying mammals). Their diet consists of ants and termites.

A huge THANK YOU to Carol (CarolG), Bob (bobpaige1) and Ron (rontear) for their User Awards.
