RAYMOND ISLAND

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
“Raymond Island, (Bunjil-baul in Gunai language), is a small island in the Gippsland Lakes in eastern Victoria, Australia, about 300 km (190 mi) from Melbourne. The island is approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) long by 2 km (1.2 mi) wide, and is just 200 m (660 ft) off the coast, across from the town of Paynesville. The island is named after William Odell Raymond, originally a magistrate from New South Wales who established himself as a squatter in Gippsland in the 1840s.” (Wikipedia)

You get there by taking a 10 minutes ride on the Raymond Island Ferry linking the island to Paynesville on the mainland.

You soon discover why it’s a special place.

Great colour Jean Noel, I was trying to see what the shrub was in v2, at first I thought it was mimosa, but the bracts of flora look too big, is it some sort of mahonia?

The flower in v2 is not a mahonia. It's an acacia which the Australian call wattle. It could be: Woolly wattle (Acacia lanigera). There are many different sorts of acacias in Australia and I'm not an expert.
