A huge THANK YOU to Carol (CarolG ) for her User Award for yesterday’s photo.

William Ricketts Sanctuary is situated in in the Dandenong Ranges about 35 km (22 mi) from Melbourne.

It’s mountainous area (big hills really but say that to the Australians!) covered with forest with tall trees and giant ferns. The temperature is lovely and cool.

William Ricketts (1898–1993) was an Australian potter and sculptor of the arts and crafts movement who settled permanently in Mount Dandenong, in 1934.

Half hidden among ferns, you can see his mystical sculptures. He was very influenced by Aboriginal spirituality and had respect for the natural world. He was not an Aboriginal by blood but considered himself adopted by the Pitjantjatjara nation.
