William Ricketts Sanctuary is situated in a ferny glade in the Dandenong Ranges about 35 km (22 mi) east from Melbourne.

The area is mountainous and covered with forest with tall trees and giant ferns. The temperature is cool and you’re surrounded by beauty and tranquillity.

There are various pathways leading up to the mystical sculptures half hidden among ferns. It is a place for quiet reflection and for contemplation of the essence of the vision of William Ricketts (1898–1993) an Australian potter and sculptor of the arts and crafts movement who settled permanently in Mount Dandenong, in 1934.

The power of his vision of a modern Australia embraces Aboriginal spirituality and show respect for the natural world. He was not an Aboriginal by blood but considered himself adopted by the Pitjantjatjara nation.

A huge THANK YOU to Carol (CarolG ) for her User Award.
