I would like to congratulate you for your picture as well.
The reasons that I do are very different to the reasons mentioned above.
I do like your black and white exercise (or execution), I do like the vertical orientation of the picture,
the use of natural light and the play of shades. THESE ARE TECHNICALITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST SEE.

I shall congratulate you because your picture as a medium transfers a feeling, (two sentiments are being caught by your lens, the one from the mother and the one from the child, love and puzzleness respectively) TECHNICALITIES DON'T MATTER , feelings do. I take a guess you have sensed these feelings yourself when you pressed the shutter button.

I am very disappointed that people just see the "pixels" and miss the feelings of a picture,
as a photograpoher whose name I forget had said,
"I don't mind about depth of focus, I mind about depth of feelings."

In my view this scores on both technical and emotional issues. It has the wow-factor and makes you stop and wonder. Message delivered. In terms of technicalities, the picture has its merits as well. The composition is nice and the mono-treatment is a treat, excuse the pun. So well deserved POTW! Gets my user award too.
A loving mother and an unsure child safe in the knowledge that mum is there great shotSmile
