Gooseberry Pie for All

By JohnEW
This is the majestic arrival of the Gooseberry Pie at the 2007 Gooseberry Pie Fair in Galmpton, Devon, held on 1 July. The pie is delivered by steam train to Churston & carried aloft to Galmpton (very near) by four Dartmouth Naval College officers headed by the Dartmouth Town Crier (I think) & a visiting American Naval Officer (this tradition started the year the Fair coincided with the 4th of July & somehow seems to have continued, irrespective of the date).

Technical details: my wife, who endeavoured to get into all of my pictures, was cloned out of this one. Some lifting of shadow levels in PS. 1/320 f/9.5 55mm ISO400

Nice collection of expressions. The Town Cryer is really into this, the American doesn't quite know what he's let himself in for (look at those tense hands), the Royal Navy pie-bearers accepting that this is probably a high point in their careers. Love the 'eyes left' face.

English (and American) eccentrics at their best.
Thank goodness for tradition.
Great shot, love the splash of colour.

Thanks for the c&C. I am particularly amused by mrswoolybill's perceptive analysis. Whilst not a work of art, I think this photo communicates something of the event. More to come, I'm afraid Wink.

I didn't try to get in your pictures: it came naturally! How lucky we were after the torrential rain earlier that day!
