Messing About...

...in Boats. This was one of my 'contingency' shots taken on our first full day in Brixham on 29 June. The weather was benign during the day, but increasingly overcast as evening drew in (Saturday was a write-off). I'm not sure about the composition in this one, it was taken kneeling on the quay, leaning over the edge with limited f/g visibility. I liked the grubby looking craft, seen here near high tide. There was a fair amount of water slopping around inside them, which I have tried to show. The lighting was quite dramatic since the clouds had moved in, but there were still the remnants of the sunny day to be seen out to sea. HDR -3 0 +3 from 1 RAW Detail tone map. 1/60 f/11 ISO320

You have captured a fair amount of gunge in those forground boats; more important, you have summed up what most of us have known as summer 2007 up to this point, from an excellent if uncomfortable viewpoint!

The foreground colour jumps out of what is almost a monotone shot. The processing has brought the detail and tone out nicely...

Lovely, moody, unconfortable shot, typical for summer 2007. Really like it - first though it was manipulation, but I think that's what it is these days.
