Reasons to be cheerfulI sort of get the concept but I think you need to go a little wider to get more of the surroundings. In this particular shot the lorry is intruding into the shoot even though you want to include Leith as a backdrop. If you went wider then the surroundings would get more attention and it would appear more intentional whereas in this shot the lorry looks more like a mistake. Around the corner (to the right of this image), there's a busy intersection with a large traffic island in the middle of the crossing - shoot there with the street and traffic as the backdrop. Shooting in alleyways and zooming in, it gives the impression you are trying to get away from the area. I like the series and I definitely want to see more.

A Light Bulb MomentI like it, especially in black and white. I'd be tempted to experiment with different viewpoints and orientations to make it more interesting and different. For example, what would it look like if you kept it where it is but moved the camera directly above it and looked down on it? In fact I might give this a go myself ...

classic vintageFantastic image! I really like his expression and also like seeing the dashboard through the window - brilliant work. If you added a tiny bit of film grain (not too much though) you could fool a lot of people into thinking you were around in the 50s to take this! Wink

the wee family

the wee familyI'm not quite sure what the subject is here. Are the swans the main subject? In which case you need to zoom in. Also it is overexposed especially if the swans are the subject. Sorry, I don't think this image works at all for those reasons. It might have been better to wait until the swans are more in view and zooming in a little. By zooming in, the swans would have filled the frame more and then not fooled the camera into over-exposing the shot which has happened here.

three shadows and an icon

three shadows  and an iconQuite dramatic! I like the shot and I'm intrigued by it, but there are a few things that don't sit easy with me. I think the sky is slightly too dominant and could be toned down a bit, but the biggest thing that distracts me are the people in front of it. They are not interacting with the viewer at all and they are more of a distraction. It would be different if we could see the expressions on their faces, but their body language look as if they are completely unmoved by the sight before them. An improvement would have been to wait until something more interesting happens in the foreground (even if someone was to look at you) or wait until the three figures in the foreground move on.
