Not the easiest subject, but done well in this case. Getting the light right and the low viewpoint makes this for me

  • Moody Maligne

The rock is probably about 10-15 metres (big) from side to side and maybe 25 metres deep. It was taken about 10:00 am just as the light was getting through the trees (Golden Light). There had been 9 inches of snow the previous day up in the mountains, 14 July 2010, which had made the headlines on Canadian TV. This gave the the misty effect seen. I knew when I saw the light, through the trees that I was seeing something special and took care to capture the moment. I took the precaution to bracket and used a number of bracketed focal lengths to capture the right shot . Maligne Canyon is situated at the lower end of the road up to Medicine and Maligne Lake from Jasper. Thank you all for your kind comments

  • Lighthouse at Isleornsay

Lovely moody sky and a great location with excellent light. I would try straightening your horizon; you will lose some of the edge of the photo, but worth trying, I think.
Compositionally, the lighthouse is too central to make this a great photo, but a pleasing image, nevertheless

Lovely light in the foreground, then the clouds lead/draw the eye through into the photo. Excellent composition.
