Carpenter Bee.

By johnke
The Carpenter bee.

There are 36 species of this Bee but this is the only time I have seen one like this. This Bee drills hole in tree's to make a Hive. I spotted two of them in some kind of mating ritual. They are very fast moving and the movement's reminded me of the Hawk moth. I could not get AF to work fast enough so this was MF. It was almost like these two bee's dived bombed each other. I didn't have my camera with me and ran to get it and has luck would have it they were still where I left them, moving in circles around one another. . They were around 30cm above the ground moving and doing circles around each other. About the size of a Bumble Bee, but we don't have Bumble Bee's in South Africa. They stayed for 5mins then just split up and left. I have uploaded this Bee previously but cant resist showing the magnificence of this beautiful Bee especially in flight. I have never seen this Bee species again.

Good Morning everyone... Well Wi Fi still not working at home, so breakfast and someone elses Wi Fi again, Thank you for all the wonderful support and I hope you enjoy my Image.

A very special thank you to Bob, Isabel, Carol, Adrian, Darryl & Carole.......

Kind Regards....John
