I had a few reasons for wanting to visit Martin Mere on Sunday. One was I'd arranged an ADAPS members' day there, so going seemed like a plan, but also I had a couple of lenses I wanted to give a proper airing to. The HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm was one. I hadn't had much of a chance to really use it in between all the lens reviews, so this was a good opportunity to try it properly for only the second time. Also, I had found that SRS had some of the old SMC Pentax-FA J 75-300mm lenses for an amazingly low price of £119. These were new, but actually date back to the release of the *ist film camera. Someone clearly found some on a shelf somewhere. The point is though that it's a full frame lens that I have owned before when I shot film. I should have kept it, but you know how lens swapping goes on......
So first let's have a look at the FA J 75-300mm and see how it behaves on the Pentax K-1.
Not too shabby at all, so definitely worth having for when the 150-450mm is too heavy or bulky to carry. However, for the main course we have the aforementioned 150-450mm and what a nice lens it is. Here's a selection using it.
All in all, a very satisfactory day with some great weather and some fantastic company as well. A super way to spend a Sunday.
