A Spiffing Time in 1934!

When I lived in the Family Home one of my favourite places was the junk room. Here, a magical world existed, full of family discards from the 1920s onwards. Old books, clothes, clocks, 78rpm shellac records, wind-up gramophones, even box cameras.....and a few of these things I have kept to this day. I hate throwing things away. So as we are in lockdown, a new project is seeking out some oddments from those few that remain and making a photographic record of them. The Pentax MX-1 12MP compact is more than adequate and actually especially useful at macro shooting. Up first is a 1934 Greyfriars Holiday Annual, all 238 pages of it, thick with stories and poems and spoofs on Ovid (good grief!) and putting modern annuals to shame. No cartoon style stories here, just lots of text, drawings and even some interspersed colour plates. Greyfriars is of course the home of the Billy Bunter stories, and of those there are plenty. Yaroo! You rotters! Seeing there is a new TV series of Malory Towers just starting a good time perhaps for Boarding School romps? So just a handful of images from the 1934 book to give a flavour, and if anyone feels so inclined then eBay usually has quite a few of these annuals there for the taking. Spiffing!
