I had a chance today to try out my new Pentax K-1 with its 28-105mm lens. We had arranged for a two hour shoot at Bent's Garden Centre, so many thanks to them for the facility. Needlesss to say, the major subject was flower photography and where better than somewhere that the flowers are in superb condition. The lighting was quite strong, but I used a small reflector as a diffuser for much of the time. The only problem is that I needed three hands, but I managed anyway with just two.
I also used the SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens, and it is one of the lenses of choice for flower photography. A sturdy tripod made sure the focus point was accurate, no waving about hand held. ISO 200, a small aperture such as f/16 and mostly shooting using Live View. On a tripod for still subjects, Live View is a very easy way to shoot pictures and compose them carefully.
As always, some samples of what I shot:
It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning, but now we've retreated from the heat to the safety of our computers....
