Cambridge from the Cam

Cambridge, an ostensibly romantic city, full of keen students riding bikes and immortalised in a never broadcast Dr Who story called Shada. Tom Baker and Lalla Ward trod these hallowed pavements, pursued by glowing globes, or actually balloons stuck to heads before the special effects team added the necessary. The most inspired moment is Tom Baker passing a barber shop quartet, riding his bike, and adding the necessary bell rings just at the right moment in Chaganooga Choo Choo. Lovely.....the singers were genuine students as well.

Alas, no such romanticism when we were in Cambridge a few weeks ago. The hallowed halls of the university were unanimously closed and even the Round Church charged us entry and then a minute or two later let someone in free because they were about to close. Cheek indeed. But lest you should think we did not appreciate Cambridge, there were other compensations and one of course has to be Punting on the Cam. So let me take you on a short journey that concentrates not on the main buildings and bridges, there are guide books with all that in, but a few snippets of things that caught my eye. Plus a bit of architecture from the city itself. Camera was the Pentax K-1 full frame DSLR, plus its excellent HD Pentax-D FA 28-105mm WR lens.

Baling out the punts!

The Mathematical Bridge

Man lazes, woman punts.....

The Round Church ceiling

Hobson Street and a fine old archway

That's what I call an entrance
