Every now and then it's a good idea maybe to go back to basics and see what we can do with the simplest camera equipment. Just watch young photographers with their mobile phones and compact cameras, shooting hundreds of images, applying all sorts of effects and filters, actually having fun.
So, yesterday we loosened up and went to a local Flower Festival with just our compact cameras. Sue was using the Olympus XZ-1 and I selected the Pentax Optio W90.
One of the biggest difficulties was keeping the camera still in very poor lighting. High ISO is best avoided, so it's down to improvising whatever support that can be found. Wedging into door frames, holding on benches and other surfaces, hand holding and hoping for the best....I even shot some video of the choir singing.
So, nowhere as easy as using the DSLRs, but fun once in a while to stretch things a bit, and some of the results not too shabby:
