All commitments fulfilled, we had a few hours to spare this afternoon, so we made our way down to Pennington Flash. We intended to spend a while in the hides, practising with our new lenses. Sue was using the Pentax K-5 and the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm lens. She added the Pentax 1.4x converter to this to make a 77-420mm zoom. I was using the Pentax K-5 coupled with the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm.
In the events, the hide we chose was very close to the wildlife, who were there in droves. We saw magpies, bullfinches, doves, pigeons and quite a number of squirrels. We had about an hour of photography and then the birds, as one, fled into the skies. The sky darkened and the first peals of thunder rolled in from the horizon. We thought it might be wise to return to the car, so, that is what we did. Quite briskly. We had only just arrived at the car....and the heavens opened. It lashed down with rain and that signaled the end of our days adventures.
The 150-450mm performed superbly. The focus was fast and positive. The quality was outstanding. If you can lift it, then it is without doubt the lens of choice.
