Extraordinary Portraits

Extraordinary as opposed to the usual, today I'm looking at doing different things to images of people. Sometimes this involves the end result certainly not being an exact likeness.....

An infra-red image of JD, shot on Kodak High Speed Infrared film. Pentax MX, 24mm lens.

Kelly Texturised and placed within a flower, from a time when I was just starting to play with Photoshop.

A studio shot of Cassie, using red gels

Girl in Nature - I've always liked this combination of a studio portrait and the bark of a tree.

The Jessops Instant Photographer - just open the bag, and out she pops, camera at the ready....

Flesh Within Stone - an idea I keep trying, combining a stone statue with a real portrait.

Faces - the idea here is to show the different faces that we present to the world.

Spirit of the Lamp - another variation on placing real portraits within inaminate objects.

The Dissolution of Man - Adam shown disintegrating by combining his portrait with various decaying objects.

Neon Girl - This is a mistake that I quite liked. Originally, a print failed because of a faulty ink cartridge. I actually liked the result, so I then did this imitation of the effect using Photoshop.

Whether or not we like the final images, it is quite useful to keep pushing the boundaries. I'm sure it helps us to keep an open mind about our photography, and that has to be a good thing.
