Having possession of much of the family archive, I have been steadily making my way through all the old black and white negatives, duly scanning and then adjusting those that can be saved. Some are great images, many are so blurred as to be almost indecipherable. Many of the people I recognise because I either knew them when they were much older, or I have prints where their names have been recorded on the back, This is so important for the future, as otherwise nobody will have a clue as to who these people are. Sometimes I even know where they were shot, which is an added bonus.
Sometimes we also have to follow the clues. Here's one such picture, just scanned a few minutes ago,
First of all, Magee Marshall was a brewery, first created in 1888 and happily brewing until it closed in 1970. (Quite recent then, but my 9-year-old grandson thinks the 1980s were the olden days.....). The Crown Brewery was on Derby Street in Bolton, fairly local to here so quite believable.
However the car is something else. I'm not sure what the model is, but maybe somebody knows? But TW 4387 is an Essex numberplate, dating between September 1925 and June 1927. Interesting and I have no idea why it was an Essex registered car.
So I continue to follow the clues, and it's actually quite interesting to be able to find out anything about these old photographs.
