Juxtapositions

I thought I'd share with you a germinating idea, one that I've not really fully explored yet, but I might if I can find enough examples. I'm calling this mini-project Juxtapositions and I've been looking for objects that are expressing the same design but in different forms. The first came about when I realised I was reading a book called The Big Sleep and there on the table was our Penguin mug of the same book. So put the two together and we get the first of the idea, albeit it not yet fully formed. It might be that I'll get a model reading the book whilst drinking his or her cup of coffee.

Other ideas around this could be more aligned with the book title.

The second idea is straightforward enough and repeats the notion in that we have a book, The Marmite Cook Book, and a new 600g tub of Marmite, because that's how we buy it. Sue ain't so keen, but I do love Marmite! Developing this idea might revolve around the cliche that we either love of hate Marmite, perhaps a couple arguing over the recipes, in other words some sort of staged scene.

That's all I have with this so far, but it is early days yet. I may or may not follow it up, but if I do I'll be sure to post a blog on the outcome.

The Golden Days of Motoring, Part Three

For the final part of this short sequence of motoring based blogs, a glimpse of something that would be a terrific find for anyone. Perhaps there's an old disused barn on your land, perhaps one day you decide to clear it out and perhaps withiong you ...

The Golden Days of Motoring, Part Two

Continuing the look at yesterday's classic car show, I could have spent many more hours looking at these fine machines and chatting to their owners, plus of course collecting a huge set of images. Only one car that I would like to see again seemed to...

Nice idea for a challenge!

In our U3A group we had an "Old and New in Juxtaposition" theme a few months ago.

This is one of my submissions

It's intended to show how one device (a not particularly new) smartphone met the same needs as many older technologies for games, mapping, calculator, books, music... . It was too late that I realised that I'd left an old film camera out of the composition!

Maybe I'll do a "big and small" one sometime.
