Looking for the Unexpected

In our home, we have a saying that goes "did you look like a Mummy looks?" and this goes back a long way as the kids could never find anything but Sue certainly could. So kids and adults get the same question even today when something goes astray. Out and about, the tables can quite often be turned, but not always. Sue is best at finding fungi, I'm best at finding interesting, often quirky things that most people just walk past. It is fantastic to spot something that turns out to be a great photographic subject, and today's visit to Arley Hall and Gardens yields a perfect example. I will confess that today was not the first time I had spotted this, but as I shot a more considered image, using a tripod and doing the job properly, I can present it as a valid example. This ancient, weathered lock is on a garden gate, concealed by greenery and not at all obvious. So let's keep that sharpness not only to images, but also to the photographic eye, spotting all sorts of minor treasures as we explore.

Here's the lock in question:

Historic Tyldesley - The Technical College

There is a road sign that says "Welcome to Historic Tyldesley" or something similar, and for a while we scratched our heads wondering what excatly was historic about Tyldesley. Well, slap on the hand for us, because there are plenty of things that w...

Buile Hill Greenhouse - Progress Report

We were down at Buile Hill Park in Salford today, just to see how the mansion and the Greenhouse were getting along. The mansion is under restoration at the moment, but the greenhouse was set to be demolished. This was such a wonderful place, with bi...

Always Carry a Camera

I make a point of always carrying a camera, just to capture anything and everything that catches my eye as we carry on with the minutiae of life. I was in Atherton and just heading for the shop that sells fuses and passed a small alleyway that used t...
