I've recently refurbished a couple of Pentax Speedbags, and there were blogs covering this at the appropriate time, but I found a new project this last week. From time to time I leave things down at ADAPS clubrooms for anyone to pick up for free if they have a use for them. One of these was this Pitney Bowes case, an unusual size and shape and IIRC perhaps home for a flash kit many moons ago. It has been there for probably 18 months now, there were no takers, so I reclaimed it and had a closer look. Inside, there was some horrible 1970s foam, stinking with age and damp. We removed the foam, cleaned the case and voila! We are left with a high quality hard case similar to the almost indestructible document cases we have all had in the past. Not only that, but in excellent condition.
Then something clicked, I think it was the brain engaging, and I looked out the Novo case insert that we bought at the NEC some years ago. We didn't run to the expense of the heavy duty outer case and use the insert to carry a reserve stock of lenses when we go on trips.
I think we can see where this is heading now, and sure enough we can now unite the two items and we find an absolutely perfect fit.
So now, at no cost apart from expending a little mental energy, we have a fine case with a fine insert. It only took 18 months for the idea to materialise, but I do like it when a plan comes together and something old can find a re-use instead of just being thrown away.
