It was a gorgeous, sunny afternoon, so I went down to Tyldesley Cemetery to see what images I could shoot using the Samsung GX20 IR-converted DSLR. Lens was the SMC Pentax-FA 20-35mm f/4, which seems to respond well to IR shooting. The difference that immediately strikes here, compared to using Kodak High Speed Infrared film, is that the pictures are grain-free and very sharp. Film IR tends to be softer, full of grain and quite a different beast. It can of course be imitated in Photoshop, but the IR-converted camera is better, and the sharpness is something different to explore. Not every shot was a succeess, as there is no way of knowing how much IR light is in a scene, and the real effect is only seen when the red image is converted to black and white in Photoshop.
There is a lot more yet to experiment with, but for today this is what I shot.
