On The Buses

13 Aug 2015 11:42PM   Views : 545 Unique : 309

Tonight we went to the Manchester Transport Museum with our ADAPS friends and spent a very interesting few hours photographing the buses and other exhibits. We were helped along by our friends Brian and Beryl Lomas and their Grandson Milo, and they were pleased to show us their own double decker bus. How cool to own a bus.....

The museum presented a few photographic difficulties, such as lack of light, cramped exhibits, tricky colour balance.....and so in the end I settled on hand held camera with 18-135mm zoom and sometimes the 43mm f/1.9 Limited lens. I felt a tripod would cramp my compositional style and basically just get in the way. ISO values were sometimes very high, and only once did I need to resort to using the built-in flash on the Pentax K-5. High ISO has the advantage of being able to use very dim lighting and I went up to ISO 6400 to get the shots I wanted.

These buses are live and can move places. This one is lit up and raring to go!

Just a bus stop? No, a list of all the places around where I lived.

We enjoyed our visit, both photographically and catching up with old friends as well. Good times.

Perhaps no trip to Cardiff would be complete without a gentle tour of the harbour by boat. Starting close to the shrine lamenting the death of Ianto Jones, the character from Torchwood, the open air boat took us on a clockwise journey, and this is wh...

Cardiff, Centre of the Universe

Still on the theme of Doctor Who, Cardiff looks very much like it is indeed the centre of the universe. Temporal Rifts, Torchwood, Aliens of every description, these are to be seen on the streets of Cardiff. In 2017 Me, Sue, her late brother Mark and...

So, we meet again, Doc-tor....

There I am, an unsuspecting 12-year-old, waiting for a new Saturday evening serial about an old man who travels in time. Twenty-five minutes later, there I am totally wowed by the most exciting bit of new TV I had ever seen. Yes, the first episode of...

The Amazing Dalbeattie Museum Trust

This is a small but packed museum in Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway. It covers a couple of floors in a corner shop location and is packed with artefacts, the bad news for us being that many of them are things that we have owned or used as youngste...

Golden Slumbers

There's an exhibitions of Egypt's Golden Mummies at Manchester Museum, and we went down to see it this afternoon. I travelled very light this time, in the end using just the Pentax MX-1 compact camera. The conditions were very dark and the exhibits l...
