On the Streets of Manchester

Yesterday Sue and I and Mark Dyson were out on the streets of Manchester, cameras armed and ready. Mark uses his phone quite a lot for street photography, Sue had her Pentax K-3 with SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm WR lens, I was using the Pentax Q-S1 with the 01 Standard Prime lens, an 8.5mm f/1.9. For most of the shots the Q-S1 was set to Bold Monochrome, which I find to be the perfect JPEG setting for the kind of black and white I like. Sue and mark were shooting in colour, but of course they can convert images to monochrome if they like. There's a small wheel on the front of the Q-S1 and this has been set to select Colour, Bold Monochrome and Vintage Colour so I can choose my "film" depending on the shot.

Here's some examples:

A very enjoyable day, not so many street artists or interesting people, but then we did have the Manchester rain.

Perhaps no trip to Cardiff would be complete without a gentle tour of the harbour by boat. Starting close to the shrine lamenting the death of Ianto Jones, the character from Torchwood, the open air boat took us on a clockwise journey, and this is wh...

Cardiff, Centre of the Universe

Still on the theme of Doctor Who, Cardiff looks very much like it is indeed the centre of the universe. Temporal Rifts, Torchwood, Aliens of every description, these are to be seen on the streets of Cardiff. In 2017 Me, Sue, her late brother Mark and...

There I am, an unsuspecting 12-year-old, waiting for a new Saturday evening serial about an old man who travels in time. Twenty-five minutes later, there I am totally wowed by the most exciting bit of new TV I had ever seen. Yes, the first episode of...

The Amazing Dalbeattie Museum Trust

This is a small but packed museum in Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway. It covers a couple of floors in a corner shop location and is packed with artefacts, the bad news for us being that many of them are things that we have owned or used as youngste...

There's an exhibitions of Egypt's Golden Mummies at Manchester Museum, and we went down to see it this afternoon. I travelled very light this time, in the end using just the Pentax MX-1 compact camera. The conditions were very dark and the exhibits l...
