Quite a few years ago we were exploring round the Penrith area and found a huge ruin of a castle-style country house. It was huge, but just a shell, and investigation found that it was the ruin of Lowther Hall. Wind forwards a few more years and English Heritage had kick-started the recovery of the Lowther Hall and estate. This has really moved on since then, and today's visit showed even more progress than last time we were here. You will find Lowther Hall near Penrith and it is well worth a day, with plenty to photograph. As we had one wheelchair bound with us today I only have a few shots, but the weather was good and they do show some of the size and grandeur of the main castle facade.
