Portraits, Portraits and More Portraits!

The ADAPS Zoom meeting later this week will be all about Portraits. If you had asked me at one time did I shoot people I would maybe have said not much, but the reality is that I shoot masses of portrait images. It's something that has grown as my own confidence has grown, from the shy starter photographer who wouldn't say boo to any passing goose, to, well, to whatever I happen to be now. So as I started to select my ten images to show at the club it soon became apparent that choosing just ten was a bit of a task. So, as my chosen portrait folder is busting at the seams with images I thought I'd better show some of them now.

The key for me with any portrait is to try and get something of the person out of the shot, a connection, an emotion, sometimes a story that I weave to engage the model. Here goes with a small selection, along with a few comments as to why I made the shots.

Sue framed in autumn colours. I was rather taken with this one, shot for a recent lens review.

Kier, a private studio session, working with dramatic lighting and shooting some nudes, some semi-nudes and some fashion.

One of an occasional series of shots of Sophie (now Jordan) pretending to be asleep in all sorts of odd places.

Searching for Ed Sheeran, Beth lit by the light of her iPhone to suggest she is totally absolbed in her task.

Natural Magic by Eleano is a pre-Raphaelite painting, shown first. My take on it is my picture Girl in Nature, shown second.

Frankie Valli performing live walked out into the audience and knelt down to sing to our friends' little girl, sat next to us. A very quickly taken grab shot, one chance only!.

Rob Van Riot, lead singer with Precious Mackenzie, shot during a rehearsal photo shoot I set up at ADAPS.

Charlotte, off down the mine!

There are so many more, but this has been a few of my favourites.
