Retro is Cool

Having mention Dr Who yesterday I recalled an image of Matt Smith saying "Fezes are cool" and just transposed that thought onto the Nikon Zfc. Sue and I were especially taken by its cute design and it makes great images too, hence a very favourable review where it received an Editor's Choice award.

But it did get me thinking about retro design, and sometimes how things are so perfect as they are that manufacturers must get stumped as to how to make them New, Better, Even Better, Redesigned.......please buy me! Perhaps the designers of the Pentax Spotmatic hit an elegance of concept that was hard to follow. So it works, but then the market wants smaller, mainly thanks to Olympus, so we have the MX and ME series film cameras. Then we want zoom lenses, then we want fast primes again......so perhaps now the market is ready for a Pentax ME-D Super DSLR that's actually mirrorless. If one is already in the works, then there hasn't been an information leak, it's just me musing. Of course, Olympus are already there with their Pen F and OM ethos reborn. Fujifilm have their rangefinder-ethos as well as the DSLR-style mirrorless. There are a huge number of fantastic lenses from all the manufacturers.
Thinking of design, there have also been, or are, the design quirks such as the multi-coloured Pentax K-01 or strange shapes from Hasselblad......I hope I haven't missed anybody out. But with all these retro thoughts, I guess some retro sepia toning might be in order, so here's three new images of a very old subject.
