And rain it did. All day. Torrential. Such was the 12th day of April in 2012 when ADAPS decided to visit Whitby. The cafes were busy that day, but sadly for them they were busy watching cold, wet customers nursing a single cup of tea for as long as possible, steam filling the rooms and misting camera and glasses lenses alike. But we are made of sterner stuff and ventured out into the downpour, taking no precautions whatsoever to protect our Pentax K-5 cameras with their weather resistant 18-135mm lenses. In fact we are still using those lenses, which came out totally unscathed by the experience. The K-5s also came through, happily continuing to shoot while dripping with water.
Photgraphy in the rain does have its compensations, with vivid colours, gorgeous reflections and misty distances. What better place than Whitby even on such a dismal day.
Let's have some pictures, mostly ones that I didn't use the first time around. A fresh look at images can bring up all sorts of shots that for some reason seem better now than they did then.
Bold colours in the wet
Bold red and white
Lobster pots
Even the pigeons were grounded
Love that ship
Dripping with water, the 199 steps up to the abbey
Bold red made bolder with rain
"Is he asleep?"
Hurrying and Scurrying through the rain
The harbour
Never let it be said that in photography rain stops play!
