The Exception Proves the Rule

This so often the case; the received wisdom does have good sense to it, but sometimes the rules can be thrown away. So it can be with flower photography, when usually I would aim for a bright overcast day, after rain being even better as the droplets look fantastic on the leaves and flowers. However, let's not dismiss full sunlight completely as sometimes the rich, dense colours produced can have a different sort of effect, no less beautiful and actually sometimes very uplifting.

Here are some examples of full sun flower images, shot mainly in Scotland.

Cardiff, Centre of the Universe

Still on the theme of Doctor Who, Cardiff looks very much like it is indeed the centre of the universe. Temporal Rifts, Torchwood, Aliens of every description, these are to be seen on the streets of Cardiff. In 2017 Me, Sue, her late brother Mark and...

So, we meet again, Doc-tor....

There I am, an unsuspecting 12-year-old, waiting for a new Saturday evening serial about an old man who travels in time. Twenty-five minutes later, there I am totally wowed by the most exciting bit of new TV I had ever seen. Yes, the first episode of...

The Amazing Dalbeattie Museum Trust

This is a small but packed museum in Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway. It covers a couple of floors in a corner shop location and is packed with artefacts, the bad news for us being that many of them are things that we have owned or used as youngste...

There's an exhibitions of Egypt's Golden Mummies at Manchester Museum, and we went down to see it this afternoon. I travelled very light this time, in the end using just the Pentax MX-1 compact camera. The conditions were very dark and the exhibits l...
