For me, the ideal street camera is fast to operate, unobtrusive and has controls that are instinctive to use. A discontinued and now highly sought after range of cameras is the diminutive mirrorless interchangeable lens Pentax Q system. Starting with the Pentax Q, a metal, very high quality and very expensive body and culminating in the Q-S1, more use of plastics but a slightly larger sensor, add the standard 8.5mm f/1.9 lens and maybe the optical viewfinder and we have would could arguably be the finest reportage/street camera for a very long time.
This particular example we purchased in one of the many custom colours available. Even the natty little lenshood is innovative, with its reverse construction and tiny screw-in cap. The accessory viewfinder, originally selling at a shocking £250, is actually a superb bit of optical design. IMHO it outclasses all the high end viewfinders of yesteryear and it's easy to see why the price was so high.
The option exists to use the back screen as usual, or to use the viewfinder, which shows the standard lens view.
So now a few street images!
