Today's destination was the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, along with a group of our friends from ADAPS. I was determined to try out my new custom-colour Q-S1 so the DSLR kit was left behind, It felt a bit odd to be carrying so little, but I knew if I tool the K-5 I would be tempted to use it.
The Q-S1 was familiar from the start, being a Pentax and being operationally the same as the original Q. I took all the lenses, but actually only used the 15-45mm f/2.8 telephoto zoom. This something like using a 80-250mm lens on film, perhaps slightly less as the Q-S1 has a slightly larger sensor than the original Q. This puts it on a par with the MX-1, well proven and excellent. So it had something to aspire to in terms of quality.
CSCs are not the easiest of cameras to use for wildlife and action shots, but nonetheless I was pleased to manage some pretty decent results with quality pretty much the same as the MX-1. That's a good result, and although there were more misses than I would have had with the K-5, it proved to possible to nail the shots required.
