And somewhere that bird is waiting for me and my cameras to arrive. It won't be long now, and even today we might just venture forth and start to rediscover the joys of photographing birds on branches. What actually surprises me is that we have so many shots of birds and hopefully a little later today we'll be out and about rehoning the necessary skills. We have lenses up to 450mm, but many bird shots are much closer and ultra-long lenses are not always required. For small birds at a distance there probably isn't a lens long enough, so watching behaviour patterns and being a bit closer is definitely more helpful. Some cameras are much better than others at focusing between a mass of branches, and in this repect our Pentax DSLRs are pretty good at finding the AF point on a bird lost in a maze of twigs and leaves.
Here's some bird pictures from my archive, all of these dating from January to March 2015.
