I shoot quite a lot of images using JPEG capture, quite a lot using compact cameras and quite a lot that are experiments in one way or another. Yesterday there was an easy experiment, helped by the front dial of the Pentax Q-S1 having quick access to various image styles and effects. So, sitting opposite my Mum at a cafe table at Matrin Mere, I decided to do a quick series of portraits using the quick dial.
This is the standard image from the Q-S1, using the Natural Image Style.
Bold Monochrome gives really punchy results, and it's a setting that I like very much.
Vintage Colour has many possibilties and I might try this again with reduced saturation and maybe a vignette.
Antique might be considered very appropriate for portraits of an 85-year-old, but I'm not going to say that out loud!
Tone Expansion is probably my least favourite of this set, but it's there for those who like it.
The settings are there, so why not use them? Maybe not all the time, but in the right place they can be highly effective.
