Twiddling Thumbs and Passing The Time of Day

That's my day today, waiting for parcel collections, waiting for parcel deliveries, waiting to collect Sue who has had to go out....so I thought I'd do a bit of revision on How To Drive a Motor Car.

I've read all about how to hold the steering wheel, how to steer, how to start the car, how to stop the car. I can't seem to buy a suitable red flag though on Amazon, so I'm a bit stuck.
Anyway, here's the family in a suitable vehicle.

I suspect I've been watching too much Outlander and may have slipped back in time a few years. Back to normal tomorrow. Hopefully Turlough, hopefully, as the Doctor used to say.

Historic Tyldesley - Frank's Cafe and More!

There was a cafe in this building for many years, well loved by local people and run by Frank and his wife. Eventually, of course, Frank retired and the building has been under restoration for some time now. If you look on YouTube one of the urban ex...

Historic Tyldesley - The Technical College

There is a road sign that says "Welcome to Historic Tyldesley" or something similar, and for a while we scratched our heads wondering what excatly was historic about Tyldesley. Well, slap on the hand for us, because there are plenty of things that w...

The Golden Days of Motoring, Part Three

For the final part of this short sequence of motoring based blogs, a glimpse of something that would be a terrific find for anyone. Perhaps there's an old disused barn on your land, perhaps one day you decide to clear it out and perhaps withiong you ...

'How to drive a motor car.' I had one edition of this book, handed down from my father. It had a similar but slightly different cover from yours. I remember some advice in it about driving on a slippery road. It said something about putting your nearside wheels in the gutter to take advantage of the grit there!. Also the wonderful expression 'beware the dreaded sideslip'.(Which I always did, especially in my VW Beetle on wet roundabouts.)
Years ago I sent the book to the Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset for their library because I was so impressed with the collection of cars.
Picture, dad, my brother Peter and me, about 1948. Probably West Wittering.
