Views from the NEC

We did get to the NEC today. Fantastic, traffic-free journey, a very interesting show, no sore feet thanks to new Rieker boots, all good. And then at last we both held the fabled new Pentax K-1 and made up our minds as to what we would buy. It's no secret that we are Pentax Users, although there are plenty of other fine cameras on the market as well, but our new upgrade path is well defined and stays firmly within the Pentax fold.

Sue wanted a built in flash, so despite liking the new K-1 a lot, we have now ordered her a new K-3 body. She found the K-1 a little heavy, but would have accepted that. It was the flash that clinched the deal for the K-3. I have no problem with the K-1 and its weight and will be ordering one with its 28-105mm zoom lens. I will keep one K-5 as a backup and the other K-5 will be sold, along with the equally pristine K20D that we still use.

Here's some scenes from today's trip:

Round and Round the Harbour

Perhaps no trip to Cardiff would be complete without a gentle tour of the harbour by boat. Starting close to the shrine lamenting the death of Ianto Jones, the character from Torchwood, the open air boat took us on a clockwise journey, and this is wh...

Cardiff, Centre of the Universe

Still on the theme of Doctor Who, Cardiff looks very much like it is indeed the centre of the universe. Temporal Rifts, Torchwood, Aliens of every description, these are to be seen on the streets of Cardiff. In 2017 Me, Sue, her late brother Mark and...

So, we meet again, Doc-tor....

There I am, an unsuspecting 12-year-old, waiting for a new Saturday evening serial about an old man who travels in time. Twenty-five minutes later, there I am totally wowed by the most exciting bit of new TV I had ever seen. Yes, the first episode of...

The Amazing Dalbeattie Museum Trust

This is a small but packed museum in Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway. It covers a couple of floors in a corner shop location and is packed with artefacts, the bad news for us being that many of them are things that we have owned or used as youngste...

Golden Slumbers

There's an exhibitions of Egypt's Golden Mummies at Manchester Museum, and we went down to see it this afternoon. I travelled very light this time, in the end using just the Pentax MX-1 compact camera. The conditions were very dark and the exhibits l...
