When is a Wedding Photographer not.......

.......a Wedding Photographer? When he's off duty and just shooting pictures for fun. And such it was when Sue and I went to Craig and Laura's wedding on Saturday. "Uncle John," said Craig, "We're not having any wedding photos, you are having a day off to enjoy the wedding!" And so it was. Karl attempted a discrete image of the ceremony, which he followed up with a spectacular leap into thin air and a crash to the ground, sending his chair flying at the same time. Awesome photographic technique and his Pentax camera survived it all. Sue thought we should shoot some fun pictures anyway, and I always have a camera attached wherever I go, so we shot some images as well.

Sue was using a Fuji F50 compact with flash and I took the Pentax K-3 II, with SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm and SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited lenses. Travelling light. In the event, a good time was had by all and the albums of images on Facebook seem to be liked as well. So, no stress, no expectations and a few good pictures, many shots at very high ISO as I didn't want to use flash. Oh, and a wedding as well! What better way to spend a Saturday. Congratulations to Craig and Laura! Smile

The Pentax and the Butterfly

I always carry my trusty Pentax MX-1, probably the best compact camera that I have ever used. It is staggeringly useful in terms of functions, not too large or heavy and sturdily made. It also has a great lens, the SMC Pentax 8-25mm f/1.8-2.5, comple...

Historic Tyldesley - Frank's Cafe and More!

There was a cafe in this building for many years, well loved by local people and run by Frank and his wife. Eventually, of course, Frank retired and the building has been under restoration for some time now. If you look on YouTube one of the urban ex...

Historic Tyldesley - The Technical College

There is a road sign that says "Welcome to Historic Tyldesley" or something similar, and for a while we scratched our heads wondering what excatly was historic about Tyldesley. Well, slap on the hand for us, because there are plenty of things that w...

Buile Hill Greenhouse - Progress Report

We were down at Buile Hill Park in Salford today, just to see how the mansion and the Greenhouse were getting along. The mansion is under restoration at the moment, but the greenhouse was set to be demolished. This was such a wonderful place, with bi...

Always Carry a Camera

I make a point of always carrying a camera, just to capture anything and everything that catches my eye as we carry on with the minutiae of life. I was in Atherton and just heading for the shop that sells fuses and passed a small alleyway that used t...
